Amaenaideyo: The Ultimate Ecchi show

Amaenaideyo Cover

It’s hard for a regular anime viewer to avoid the occasional fan service or Ecchi scene in our shows. It’s like clock work that there will be a filler episode based on a beach or swimming pool and ultimately will provide no purpose apart from feeding our eyes with revealed skin. But there is only so much teasing I can take before making the switch to the H stuff. Ecchi or Harem shows would be the middle ground, with most episodes showing enough of the good stuff to keep you enticed while not showing it all so it’s ok to watch in a lit room. But can sex appeal really carry a show? No but Amaenaideyo does try.

Amaenaideyo Castt

Amaenaideyo is has the vanilla cast of beautiful high school girls living with one guy but they are all monks so hanky panky is not allowed (and they’re underaged you sickos). But to exorcise the evil spirits it is necessary for Ikko (the male lead) to be sexually stimulated by seeing a naked breast or something similar. This may seem like pandering and it is but at least it is up front about it. It sets up that you will see some skin every episode so tones down on the teasing. It’s smut and it knows it.

This anime is really light hearted. It follows the daily deeds of the young monks, going to pray, teaching the elderly and volunteering as well as going to school. But for some reason everyone in the town is a massive pervert and will stop at nothing until all the girls have been harassed in some way or another.

Amaenaideyo 1

This may seem like the most perverted show ever but Amaenaideyo has a little but of heart under the glamour. I hate to admit it but I actually got engaged by the over arcing two season character plot of Ikko trying to resist his male urges. Apparently “awakening” is bad even though they kill the monster of the week using that move every episode. Ikko begins to feel remorseful about exploiting the girls and tries to use the traditional methods for exorcising.

Amaenaideyo Katsu was the sequel to Amaenaideyo and had some episodic arcs that ended on cliff hangers. This series was the weaker of the two and it seemed to take itself too seriously. Yes it did expand upon Ikko learning more about how to control his powers but ultimately it didn’t do a damn thing since he still needed to see some exposed breast to defeat the monsters.

Glasses

The best episodes were actually the ones where the monks didn’t have to fight any ghosts or spirits but were just chilling out. School fairs, late night karaoke and horror film nights allowed them to play around with comedy and fun costumes. The School fair one especially as it focussed on the Glasses Character helping an internet fan of hers pass on into the after life by allowing him to experiencing the school fair.

If you have a soft spot for high school, buddha and a big slice of cheesecake, Amaenaideyo deserves your time.
